Unakumbuka is a space for honouring the memory of those who have passed and supporting their families. Every piece of content on this platform should reflect the dignity, respect, and compassion that these moments deserve.
This policy outlines what is and is not acceptable on Unakumbuka. By using the platform, you agree to follow these guidelines. We reserve the right to remove content or restrict accounts that violate this policy.
We welcome content that honours the deceased and supports grieving families:
Biographical information, life stories, and obituaries
Photographs, videos, and audio recordings of or relating to the deceased
Written tributes, condolence messages, poems, and prayers
Funeral and memorial event details, including schedules and logistics
Fundraising campaigns for funeral costs, family support, or charitable causes linked to the memorial
Cultural and religious content appropriate to the memorial context
The following content is strictly prohibited and will be removed:
Hate speech, harassment, or threats directed at any individual or group
Graphic, violent, or disturbing imagery unrelated to respectful remembrance
Sexually explicit or pornographic material
False or misleading memorials created for individuals who are not deceased
Spam, advertisements, or commercial promotions unrelated to funeral services
Fraudulent fundraising campaigns or misuse of donated funds
Personal information of living individuals shared without their consent
Content that infringes on intellectual property or copyright
Malware, phishing links, or any content designed to harm users
We use a combination of automated systems and human review to moderate content on Unakumbuka. Our moderation team reviews flagged content with cultural sensitivity and an understanding of diverse mourning practices across Africa.
Memorial creators and family editors have the ability to manage tributes on their own memorials, including removing inappropriate comments or photos left by visitors.
We strive to make decisions fairly and transparently. If your content is removed, you will receive a notification explaining the reason.
If you encounter content that violates this policy, please report it immediately. You can report content by:
Tapping the flag icon on any memorial, tribute, or comment
Emailing our Trust & Safety team at trust@unakumbuka.com with a description of the issue and a link to the content
All reports are reviewed within 48 hours. You may report content anonymously. We do not disclose the identity of reporters to the content author.
Violations of this policy may result in the following actions, depending on severity and frequency:
Content removal: The offending content is removed and the author is notified.
Warning: A formal warning is issued to the user account.
Temporary suspension: The account is suspended for a defined period.
Permanent ban: Repeat or severe violations result in permanent account removal.
We may also report illegal content to relevant Kenyan authorities as required by law. Users may appeal enforcement decisions by contacting trust@unakumbuka.com within 30 days.
